The Mission

VillageCoco Charcoal’s mission is to improve the social and economic well-being of our suppliers, mostly small scale, Filipino coconut farmers, their families and communities based in Palawan Island, the Philippines.

To achieve this mission we are working hard towards fulfilling the FLO Certification criteria so that our coconut charcoal will be the 1^st Fairtrade-certified charcoal product in the world.

Fairtrade is the world’s most recognised and respected ethical certification system. Fairtrade offers farmers and workers in developing countries a better deal – the opportunity to improve their lives and plan for the future. In the Philippines a large majority of small scale farmers do not get a ‘fair deal’ – we want to remove the middlemen by purchasing directly from the farmers, processing the shell into a consistent and high quality charcoal that is delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner.

VillageCoco Charcoal is supporting the development of the largest supplier Association in Southern Palawan, the Palawan Fair Trade Coconut Association. This organisation will receive a fair and consistent price plus the Fairtrade premium that will enable our suppliers to significantly improve their standard of living and quality of life.
